I had a waiting to become a new patient, fast forward 10 years and it was well worth the wait. I couldn't see myself ever leaving. The best staff and dentist in the area. So friendly, personable and professional. I'd give 10 stars if I could.
What Do Dental Implants Cost?
Restoring your smile with dental implants is a highly personalized treatment that carries a different price in every case. The primary cost factors are:
The Number of Implants You Require
The more teeth you need to replace, the more you can expect your treatment to cost.
The Complexity of Your Case
The need for bone grafting and other preparatory treatments will affect the total price of your procedure.
The Parts of Treatment Your Insurance Will Cover
Insurance doesn't always cover dental implants, but your replacement teeth and any necessary preparatory treatment may be. Our practice is exceptional at helping patients get the most from their benefits.
Your Choice of Provider
Experienced and reputable providers generally have higher prices, but are more likely to give you an outstanding result. A poor outcome can cost you time, money, and stress to correct.
We can provide you with an estimated cost of treatment during your dental implant consultation at our Washington, D.C. office.
CareCredit: Low-Interest and Interest-Free Financing
CareCredit® is a popular third-party lender that makes it easy to budget for any out-of-pocket dental implant expenses. Based on your credit score, you can take advantage of low-interest or interest-free financing. Best of all, it won't affect your credit score to see if you qualify! During your visit to our office, we'll be glad to help you determine if you'd like to take advantage of this option.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is the next best thing to having your original tooth back. The implant itself is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jaw, where it functions as a tooth root. Once the post has fused with the bone the dentists at Thornton Dental Associates, P.C., in Washington, DC, can attach a restoration that recreates the missing tooth, from root to crown.
A complete restoration includes the implant; the abutment, a connector that allows the restoration to attach to the implant; and the restoration, such as a tooth-shaped dental crown. A single implant can be used to replace a lone tooth or several implants can support everything from a dental bridge to a full denture.
Why Titanium?
Biocompatible
Titanium has biocompatible capabilities, meaning it is not harmful to living tissue. During a process known as osseointegration, the titanium bonds with the surrounding bone tissue to provide sturdy support for the restoration that will sit on top of the implant.
Hypoallergenic
Titanium is also unlikely to cause an allergic reaction in patients. According to a dental implant study, researchers estimated that only 0.6% of patients are allergic to titanium. The possibility of having an allergic response to titanium is much lower than that of non-hypoallergenic metals.
“Thank you!”
More 5-Star Reviews From Washington, D.C. Patients
I've been a patient since moving here in 2007. Dr Thornton's office is extremely well run, clean, and the staff is always super friendly. Dr. Thornton is thoughtful and remembers my history. 10/10!!
As a new patient, I have to say that everybody- from the front desk to Dr. Thornton- was very polite and professional. I was also able to get a next-day appointment, which I sincerely value- especially because I was in pain. Thank you!
Benefits of Dental Implants
-
Prevents Bone Atrophy in the Jaw
Yellowing teeth are a natural part of aging. As we age, our enamel wears down, exposing the yellow dentin underneath.
-
Lifetime Solution
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. While the restorations that sit on top of your implants, like crowns, dental bridges, and dentures, will eventually need to be replaced, with proper care your implants can last for decades.
-
Reliable Stability
Dental implants provide unmatched support for your smile. While dentures may shift or slip as you speak and eat, dental implants feel like your natural teeth and won't move position as you go about your day.
-
Confidence Boost
Missing teeth and poor oral health can take a serious toll on your confidence, making you hesitant to share your smile. Dental implants can restore your self-image and help you feel like yourself again.
-
Better Function
Missing teeth can hinder your ability to speak clearly and chew your favorite foods. It can also lead to other dental health problems, like a TMJ disorder caused by uneven bite pressure. Dental implants restore the full function of your smile.
Candidates for Dental Implants
In order to qualify for dental implants, patients must meet the following candidacy requirements:
Free of Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease can weaken the gum tissue and cause implant failure. Periodontal disease will need to be treated before you can qualify for dental implants.
Adequate Jawbone
After losing a tooth, you may suffer jawbone atrophy. Since jawbone tissue is required to support an implant, you may need bone grafting or a sinus lift before receiving dental implants.
Good Health
For any surgery you undergo, it's best to be in good health. Our dentists will review your medical history before beginning treatment to ensure conditions like diabetes are under control.
Non-Smoker
Smoking can increase the risk of implant failure and otherwise reduce your body's ability to heal after implant placement surgery.
We're excited to offer the advanced All-on-4® implant method which allows even patients with bone loss to qualify without the need for preparatory treatment.
Do You Qualify for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are one of the best investments you can make in your oral health.
Our practice has over 20 years of experience crafting smiles that restore function and look great. Preparatory procedures, like bone grafting and clearing periodontal disease, may be necessary to place the implant, but the process is worth the extra effort.

Why Are Dental Implants Better
For Replacing Missing Teeth?
Perhaps the most important part of an implant-supported tooth restoration is the part you don't see: the dental implant itself. This titanium post doesn't just support the tooth. It also acts as a messenger that signals the jaw to regrow bone lost to daily wear and tear. Without these messages, the bone in the tooth socket and jaw deteriorates.
No other tooth restoration method restores both the tooth and the root. This flaw opens the door to bone atrophy and future dental problems as the jawbone erodes.

Once your jaw has healed after dental implant placement, your dentist can place a crown, bridge, or denture to restore your smile. There are several benefits to getting dental restorations from Thornton Dental Associates, P.C.:
Premium Materials
Our Washington, DC office uses zirconia to craft your crown, bridge, or denture. This durable material is roughly three times stronger than porcelain, making it a premium choice for your restoration.
Long-Lasting Results
With proper care, your restoration can last about 15 years before it will need to be replaced. The zirconia material is durable and stands the test of time when treated with care.

Our office takes the time to carefully match your restoration with the color of your surrounding natural teeth. This process helps your results seamlessly blend in with your smile.
